Principles of Manual Handling
Course Introduction
The Principles of Manual Handling course is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and safely carry out manual handling tasks. The course covers topics such as the importance of manual handling, anatomy and physiology, identifying hazards and risks, safe lifting techniques, and team lifting.
It can be delivered as a half-day or one-day program.
Those who need to learn about practical manual handling techniques should stay on for a full-day training session.
Course Information
- It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the trainee operator will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
- State the definition of manual handling, the main causes of manual handling injuries and the reasons for manual handling training
- Describe the function and shape of the human spine
- Describe the function of the intervertebral discs
- Understand the effects of static loading and the risks involved in team lifting
- Demonstrate an understanding of formal and dynamic risk assessment
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for manual handling operations
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Describe and demonstrate safe handling techniques and mechanical aids
This qualification has been developed for those already working, or preparing to work, in the industry and who will be required to complete manual handling operations as part of their working duties.
Delegate Requirements – Delegates should be physically fit, and in good health and should, generally, not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness.
Novice – This course is designed for the complete Novice delegate however it will be equally suitable for delegates with experience and those
