Course content
By the end of the course, the operator will be able to:
- Understand the industry, its dangers and your responsibilities as a PAV operator
- Use the manufacturer's handbook, other information sources and relevant legislation
- Locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Locate and identify the steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions
- Carry out all pre-operational checks to manufacturer's and legislative requirements
- Check all emergency lowering functions
- Safely mount and dismount the machine
- Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre safely on level and rough ground and inclines, in open and confined areas
- Carry out safety checks at the work area, including overhead and underground hazards
- Position and configure the machine at the work area for accessing tasks
- Understand loading and unloading procedures for transportation
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

Who should attend
Anyone already working, or preparing to work, in industry who will use a push around vertical platform as part of their job.
Novice: designed for complete novices, and equally suited to experienced operators and those renewing their PAL licence.
Delegate requirements: delegates should be physically fit and in good health. Literacy and driving experience are desirable but not mandatory.
Qualification & funding
IPAF is the not-for-profit federation that promotes the safe use of powered access worldwide. Successful delegates receive their IPAF PAL card with a 5 year ePAL registration.
