Course Information
- By the end of this course, attendees will be able to:
- Discuss hazards associated with yardshunting operations
- Demonstrate safe use of the equipment
- Identify attachments, components and safety features
- Demonstrate an effective pre-use inspection of the combination
- Safely reverse the combination in a straight line, from the left, and from the right
- Safely couple and uncouple a semi-trailer.
- Give appropriate signals to a driver engaged in yardshunter duties
- React correctly to signals given by a banksman when engaged in the duties of yardshunter
- Explain the risks that exist when working with a banksman and how to minimise those risks.
This qualification has been developed for those already working, or preparing to work, in the industry and who will be using a Vehicle Yardshunter as part of their working duties.
Delegate Requirements –
The candidate will be a DVSA Category B licence holder
Delegates should be physically fit, in good health and should, generally, not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness. It is, however, desirable (but not mandatory) that applicants should be literate and have had driving experience as an indication of dexterity
Novice – This course is designed for the complete Novice delegate.
Experienced – Delegates must have used the equipment in a range of operations for a minimum of 3 months.
Refresher – Delegates must have already attended a course and have valid proof in the form of certification.
