Yardshunter

Course Introduction

Our Yard Shunter and Banksman training courses are designed to provide the essential skills to safely operate or guide large vehicles such as lorries, buses, and tugs in off-road environments like depots and industrial yards. You’ll learn how to manoeuvre these vehicles safely without the need for a road licence, helping to protect site users, reduce accidents, and minimise equipment damage. The course trains individuals to manoeuvre and direct an articulated vehicle both forward and in reverse, in a straight line and around corners. Candidates must hold a minimum of a Category B driving licence. In addition, you’ll be trained in the role of a Banksman, using standard hand signals to guide drivers and assist with vehicle movements on-site. While Banksman training does not qualify you to drive, it plays a critical role in maintaining site safety. Yard Shunter training includes both shunting and Banksman elements, whereas a standalone Banksman course does not include vehicle manoeuvring.
